Keeping It Green
Green Hospitality Certified
has been a leader in Co Donegal in sustainable development and we are delighted to have been awarded the Gold Green Hospitality here at the Ballyliffin Lodge for 2013/14. There has been many changes here at the Ballyliffin Lodge in achieving this award.
Over the last year we have focused on key objectives such as:
Reduction in energy consumption - We have introduced successful waste, water and energy saving measures
90% our interior and exterior lighting have been fitted with energy saving bulbs
All have taparators fitted on all taps and have changed all shower heads reducing water usage from 14 litres per min to 6 litres per min, with the same water pressure.
We have installed heat pumps thus reduced or usage of oil down to zero.
Increasing recycling rates - We actively recycle on site - glass, paper, tin, cardboard, plastic
Our towel reuse program has proven very successful where we encourage our guests to reuse their towels. In return we give a contribution of our energy savings to our chosen annual charity. This year is The Good Life Orphanage in Kenya
We buy local produce where possible to support local business and also reduce carbon emissions on deliveries
Employees are given training and the resources required to meet our environmental objectives
The Green Hospitality Programme is supported by the Environmental Protection Agency as one of their Green Businesses Initiatives
Our objective for 2014 is to achieve the Platinum award.
